WASHINGTON – Following the news that the RNC has filed for intervention in an ongoing election integrity lawsuit in Minnesota, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Michael Whatley released the following statement.
"The RNC is filing this intervention to protect basic, constitutional mail voting safeguards from underhanded attacks by dark-money left-wing groups. Our presence in this case will help ensure a vigorous defense of Minnesota's existing witness requirement for absentee voting and help make mail voting more secure."
Background:
- Minnesota’s witness requirement for mail ballots is a common-sense safeguard to protect and ensure public confidence in the integrity of the mail voting process.
- This lawsuit is just the latest left-wing attack on mail ballot safeguards through weaponization of federal law. As in numerous other suits across the country, the RNC is intervening to defend mail ballot safeguards from meritless legal attack.
- The RNC successfully defended Minnesota’s ballot harvesting restrictions in 2020 all the way up to the Minnesota Supreme Court and is prepared to defend the challenged law here just as vigorously.
- This is the RNC's 80th case of election integrity litigation this cycle alone. On March 13th, the RNC sued Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson over the state's inaccurate voter rolls.
