WASHINGTON – Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement celebrating Juneteenth:
“Juneteenth is an important day for all Americans. As we vow to never forget the evils of slavery, we must continue the work of perfecting our Union. It wasn’t until this day in 1865 that word of President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation got to Galveston, Texas, finally freeing the remaining enslaved Americans. Juneteenth reminds us all how valuable freedom is and what we can achieve when we appeal to our nation’s highest ideals and come together as Americans."
