WASHINGTON,
D.C. – Today, the Republican National Committee (RNC) helped secured
a major election integrity victory, after the Minnesota Supreme Court
unanimously upheld Minnesota's commonsense absentee ballot witness requirement.
"This
is a major victory for election integrity," said RNC Chairman Joe Gruters.
"The RNC helped defeat
yet another left-wing assault after Democrats and their allies tried to tear
down a commonsense absentee ballot safeguard. The RNC will never stop fighting
to secure the ballot box."
Background:
- Today, the RNC and
Republican Party of Minnesota (MNGOP) successfully
helped defend Minnesota's absentee ballot witness
requirement before the State's Supreme Court.
- In September of
2025, the RNC and MNGOP filed
an amicus brief after left-wing groups sued to eliminate
Minnesota's absentee ballot witness requirement.
- The Minnesota
Supreme Court unanimously rejected their claims and upheld the law.
- The court ruled
that requiring a witness for absentee ballots does not violate the Voting
Rights Act.
- Minnesota's witness
requirement helps ensure absentee ballot rules are followed and, for newly
registered voters, confirms proof of residence was provided.
