RNC Secures Major Texas Election Integrity Victory, Defends Key SB 1 Safeguards

Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Last night, the Republican National Committee (RNC) secured another major election integrity victory after the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld key Texas election safeguards, including protections against voter coercion and ballot harvesting.

"This is a big win for Texas voters," said RNC Chairman Joe Gruters. "The RNC helped beat back yet another left-wing attempt to tear down commonsense election safeguards. Texans deserve elections free from coercion, intimidation, and Democrat ballot harvesting schemes, and this ruling keeps those protections firmly in place. The RNC will keep fighting in court to make sure every legal vote counts."

Background:

  • Last night, the RNC helped secure a major election integrity victory after the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld key voter assistance and absentee ballot safeguards in Texas' SB 1 and reversed a lower court's ruling.
  • The RNC has been fighting to help defend Texas' election integrity law - SB 1 - since it was passed in 2021.
  • The RNC has successfully defended SB 1 against legal challenges from Democrats seeking to dismantle Texas' commonsense election integrity protections.
  • The Fifth Circuit upheld requirements that ballot assistors identify themselves, disclose whether they are being paid, and attest that they did not coerce or pressure voters.
  • The Fifth Circuit also upheld Texas' requirement that voters who vote by mail must provide an identification number or social security number that matches the State’s records.
  • SB 1 was signed into law in 2021 and includes protections against ballot harvesting, safeguards for voter assistance, stronger mail ballot verification requirements, and expanded poll observation.
