RNC Statement: Democrats are Responsible for the Longest Government Shutdown in History

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Joe Gruters released the following statement on the Democrats’ shutdown becoming the longest in U.S. history:

“Democrats are celebrating their new Communist leader in New York City while millions of hardworking Americans struggle to make ends meet,” said Chairman Gruters. “Instead of working to reopen the government, Democrats are busy staging rallies for socialists and protecting illegal immigrants and criminals. By voting to shut down the government 14 times, Democrats have held Americans’ paychecks hostage, cost the economy billions, and left families wondering how they’ll afford groceries or rent.  The Democrat Party isn’t fighting for working Americans — it’s fighting for the approval of its most extreme activists. While Democrats remain beholden to these extremists, Republicans are focused on reopening the government and putting the American people first.”
