RNC Statement on August Jobs Report

WASHINGTON – Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement on the August jobs report:

“Bidenomics isn’t working – the last three months have been the worst three month stretch for job growth since the pandemic. Prices are up, real wages are down, and despite the lies and gaslighting from Biden, American families are being left behind because of his failed economic agenda.”

Background:

• The last three months have been the worst three-month stretch for job growth since the pandemic hit, with an average of just 150,000 new jobs each month since May.
  • Jobs gains for June and July were revised down by a combined 110,000 jobs.
  • The unemployment rate rose to 3.8 percent, increasing for women, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, and workers without any college education.
  • The number of long-term unemployed Americans increased in August by 132,000.
  • The labor force participation rate is still below pre-pandemic levels.
  • 40 percent of small business owners say there are job openings they cannot fill.
• Biden’s economic agenda is decimating Americans’ finances – the average middle-class household has lost over $33,000 in real wealth in just the past year.
• U.S. average gas prices currently sit at $3.82 per gallon which is more than $1.40 higher than when Biden became president.
• The U.S. was recently stripped of its top credit rating, with the downgrade coming just months after Biden and congressional Democrats took the country to the brink of default and amid an increasingly unsteady economic path.
