RNC Statement on Biden’s Latest Border Record

Biden’s DHS just reported the highest number of illegal border crossings in the Department’s history – 234,088 illegal border crossings in April

WASHINGTON - Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement on the highest number of border encounters in DHS history:

“It’s official, Biden created the worst crisis at the border on record – April border encounters are the highest ever recorded by the Department of Homeland Security in a single month. Thanks to Biden’s open borders agenda and his decision to end Title 42, drug smugglers and human traffickers will continue to thrive and American communities are less safe as a result.”  

Background:

• In April, 234,088 illegal immigrants were apprehended attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border, making this “likely the highest monthly numbers since the Border Patrol was formed in 1924.” 
  • It’s a 30 percent increase over last April, and a 384 percent increase from the average number of April apprehensions during the Trump administration.
  • 12,221 unaccompanied children were apprehended. 
  • 108,555 illegal immigrants were apprehended from countries outside the Northern Triangle, showing that Biden’s crisis has gone global.
• Illicit drugs are flowing into the country at an alarming rate, with 1,281 pounds of deadly fentanyl and 11,007 pounds of methamphetamine seized at the southern border in April alone.
• Border Patrol seized enough fentanyl in April to equate to more than 290 million lethal doses.
• 62 illegal immigrants on the terror watchlist have been apprehended at the southern border just since the fiscal year began in October.
• Biden’s plan to eliminate Title 42 next week will only add fuel to the fire and cause a “mass migration event” of unseen proportions.
