RNC Statement on "Casa Crist" Grand Opening in Tampa

Press Release

If you are covering the opening of “Casa Crist” in Tampa, please consider the following statement from the Republican National Committee:

“Florida Democrats’ insincere, last-minute effort to engage with Tampa Hispanics is what you’ve come to expect from a party that compares Hispanics to ‘breakfast tacos.’” – RNC Spokeswoman Julia Friedland

Background:

  • Florida Democrats’ Hispanic Outreach Leaves Much to be Desired:
    • Charlie Crist thinks he understands Hispanic culture because he has had Greek food before.
    • Democrats wondering why Biden’s approval rating has hit all-time lows among Hispanics should consider that Biden thought playing “Despacito” at a campaign event in Kissimmee would be a good idea.
    • Florida Democrats, who still call Hispanics “Latinx,” have taken note of their own Hispanic outreach shortcomings. While praising Republicans’ impressive ground game, Florida Democrat Annette Taddeo said: “Hispanic engagement among Democrats is ‘definitely, across the board, I’d say not enough,’ Taddeo said, noting that the GOP has a sustained Hispanic outreach program in South Florida that operates regardless of whether it’s an election cycle.”
  • Florida Democrats Have Failed Hispanics
  • Republicans’ Continuous Hispanic Outreach:
    • Unlike Florida Democrats, Republicans invested early on in Hispanic outreach for the 2022 midterm cycle. The Republican National Committee made a multimillion-dollar commitment to continue our organizing efforts in Hispanic communities in key states across the country. Of our 5 communities centers in Florida, 3 are designated for Hispanic outreach (Doral, Tampa and Orlando.)
      • Our community centers in Tampa and Doral have hosted the “Republican Civics Initiative,” working to build relationships with Hispanic voters by helping immigrants prepare for naturalization tests.
      • The Republican National Committee also rolled out a Spanish-language version of Campaign Sidekick, the RNC’s voter contact app, to help continue making inroads with Hispanic voters.
