WASHINGTON – Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement on the RNC’s Election Integrity victory in Florida:
"This ruling is a landmark victory for election integrity and Florida voters and a major blow to Democrats’ election integrity misinformation campaign. The RNC immediately jumped in to defend Florida’s common-sense legislation from attacks by Democrats because Floridians deserve basic election safeguards. This massive victory yet again proves that when Democrats have to drop their election misinformation and deal in facts, they have nothing."
Background:
- Florida’s Senate Bill 90 (SB 90) provides reasonable, effective reforms to the electoral process which the majority of American voters support.
- It includes the following common-sense provisions:
- Reasonable ID requirements for mail voting
- Restrictions on ballot harvesting
- Requiring bi-annual maintenance of Florida’s voter registration website to ensure its strength
- Prohibiting state election officials from receiving private donations related to voter outreach
- Mandating increased transparency from county voting websites on Election Day
- Strengthening vote-by-mail drop-box security
- Enhancing transparency regarding ballot duplication, voter registration, and election day numbers
- The RNC and NRSC intervened in the lawsuits challenging SB90 at an early stage and provided critical support to Florida who was faced with an onslaught of dozens of Democrat lawyers funded by dark money organizations.
- Today’s decision is another devastating blow to the left’s use of the courts to attack election integrity.
- It follows a major Republican success in the DNC v. Brnovich case where the Supreme Court upheld Arizona’s ban on ballot harvesting and rejected Democrats’ radical proposed reinterpretation of the Voting Rights Act. The RNC was instrumental in obtaining that win.
- Georgia’s 2021 reform legislation SB202, contains similar provisions to Florida’s and has also been challenged in court. Georgia and Florida are both in the 11th Circuit.
- Today’s ruling could be fatal to Democrats’ attacks on SB202. It will be very difficult for Democrats to overcome this bad ruling for them in the circuit. The RNC is also a participant in all lawsuits challenging SB202.
