WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Joe Gruters released the following statement on the IA-03 primary:


"Voters will resoundingly reject Sarah Trone Garriott, who can't go five minutes without insulting Iowa values and calling hardworking people racist. While Trone Garriott constantly tries to divide people, Congressman Zach Nunn has a track record of bringing people together to find common ground as one of the most bipartisan and effective members of Congress." 


Sarah Trone Garriott has:.

  • Said Christians who oppose transgender surgeries for kids are racist

  • Said she is uncomfortable with white people

  • Said Iowans show "horrible animosity" to Muslims 

  • Defended pagan witchcraft and suggested Christians who oppose it aren't properly consulting scripture

  • Called private Christian schools "segregation academies" designed to create "white enclaves"

  • Complained that Iowa's leaders are too white, too Christian, and too male, despite being a white Christian herself

  • Said that religious conservatives participating in political life is “uncomfortable” and “something very threatening”

  • Blamed evangelist Billy Graham for a modern rise in the "white patriarchy"

  • The day after 9/11, she said the attacks that killed 2,000 Americans made her "more aware" of anti-Muslim bigotry

  • Voted to allow men in women's sports, sex change surgeries for minors, and to keep books depicting sex acts in schools for K-6th graders
