RNC Statement on Joe Biden Welcoming Members of ASEAN

WASHINGTON – Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Spokesman Nainoa Johsens released the following statement on Biden welcoming members of ASEAN: 

“As Joe Biden welcomes the leaders of ASEAN to confront China’s growing influence in Asia, his record on being weak on Communist China speaks for itself. Biden has enabled China to grow its influence, threaten American security, and destroy American jobs. He has failed to confront Xi Jinping on the origins of coronavirus and instead boasts about how much time they’ve spent together. Americans know Biden is weak on China and a total failure on foreign policy.” 

Background: 

• Biden has a long history of ignoring China’s imminent threat, putting America last, and repeatedly bragging about spending more time with Xi than any other world leader. 
  • He also stated: “China is not our enemy,” “a rising China is a positive development” for the U.S, and that they’re “ not bad folks.”  
• Biden has praised Xi, calling him “bright,” while John Kerry, his Climate Czar, called Chinese officials “genuine friends.” 
• At the first high-level meeting between China and the U.S., China mocked America’s “sins” and claimed the superiority of “Chinese-style democracy ,” embarrassing the Biden administration on the world stage. 
• Biden resumed funding for the WHO despite China’s significant influence over the organization.
• Biden has failed to confront China on the origins of the coronavirus after promising he would “insist” on getting answers.
