RNC Statement on July State Jobs Report

Press Release

15 of the 18 states that have more jobs than when the pandemic hit are Republican-led.

WASHINGTON – Today, Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel released the following statement on the July state jobs report:

“After shuttering small businesses and schools with draconian lockdowns, Democrats are now raising taxes during a recession. Meanwhile, month after month, the numbers show that Republican-led states are leading in job creation. It is no wonder why so many Americans have fled Democrat-run states and cities and will vote for Republicans and our commonsense solutions in November.”

Background:

  • Newly released data from the Labor Department confirms that Republican governors and legislatures are leading the way in getting America back to work.
  • Through July, nine of the top 10 states for jobs recovered since the coronavirus pandemic began are led by Republican governors, and all 10 states have Republican-controlled legislatures.
    • 15 of the 18 states that have more jobs than when the pandemic hit are Republican-led: Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Montana, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Missouri, Nebraska, Alabama, and Utah.
    • Republican-led states on average have recovered 106 percent of their lost jobs compared to just over 92 percent for Democrat-run states.
  • Out of the top 10 states with the lowest unemployment rates, eight are led by Republican governors and eight have Republican-controlled legislatures.
  • Of the 14 states that have hit new record low unemployment rates, eight have Republican governors and nine have Republican-controlled legislatures.
