RNC Statement on Landmark Supreme Court Free Speech Victory

Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Joe Gruters released the following statement after the Supreme Court ruling in NRSC v. FEC:

“This is a massive victory for the First Amendment,” said Chairman Gruters. “Limiting the ability of political parties to work with and provide support directly to their candidates is not only ridiculous, it’s unconstitutional as the Supreme Court has now ruled. The RNC has been preparing for this ruling, and we are ready to expand the ways we directly help and provide resources to Republican candidates across the country.”

Background:

  • In August 2025, the RNC filed an amicus brief in support of the NRSC’s challenge to federal coordinated expenditure limits.
  • Under the previous law, party committees like the RNC faced strict caps on coordinated expenditures — the amount of resources that they could directly devote to helping their Senate and House candidates.
  • These limits greatly reduced the ability of political parties like the RNC to support our candidates, weakening political parties while empowering outside organizations.
  • Eliminating these limits means the RNC can now provide more assistance directly to campaigns, helping both Republican candidates across the country and allowing the RNC to be even more effective with its resources.
