WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Joe Gruters released the following statement on ME-02:
“Matt Dunlap has thrown his hat in with Graham Platner, hoping it will distract from his record of utter incompetence as Maine State Auditor. Dunlap has let the people of Maine down repeatedly and allowed the state to be fleeced out of millions due to fraud and scams. Republicans will flip this seat in November.”
As a reminder, President Trump won ME-02 by more than 9 points in 2024.
Dunlap:
- Is standing by Graham Platner, even after Platner was exposed for domestic abuse
- Presided over multiple fraud scandals as Maine State Auditor:
- $45.6 million lost to improper Medicaid payments that were supposed to go to services for children with autism
- MaineCare taken for millions in the Gateway Community Services scam
- Maine’s SNAP program fell victim to a cloning theft that impacted 300 Maine households to the tune of $76,000
- Denied Maine faced fraud in defiance of the facts
- Supports tax hikes
- Advocates for debunked “Medicare for All,” which would raise taxes and reduce access and quality of care
