WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican National
Committee (RNC) Chairman Joe Gruters released the following statement after
Senate Democrats voted against confirming Senator Markwayne Mullin as Secretary
of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS):
“Democrats have refused to
fund DHS for weeks, and now they are doubling down on their dangerous shutdown
by opposing Secretary Mullin’s confirmation,” said Chairman Gruters.
“Democrats would rather leave travelers stranded in hours-long airport lines
and keep law enforcement agents working without pay than do the bare minimum to
protect the homeland. Secretary Mullin will build on President Trump’s record
of securing the border, restoring order, and putting American citizens first —
which is precisely why radical Democrats fought his confirmation.”
