RNC Sues Georgia County over Zuck Bucks Records

Press Release

WASHINGTON -- Today, the RNC filed suit against DeKalb County, Georgia for failure to adequately comply with public records requests. Georgia has banned “Zuck Bucks” – dark money from third party organizations aimed at influencing U.S. elections. The RNC has good reason to believe that DeKalb County has received funding through the U.S. Alliance for Election Excellence, a dark-money organization that peddles Zuck Bucks around the country. The RNC pursued records requests to obtain more information about the funds, but the county took months to make its productions and provided implausibly few documents about this substantial injection of funds. We have filed suit to obtain the full record.

RNC Chairman Michael Whatley stated: “Ensuring illegal money is not influencing our election process is critical in Georgia and beyond. This lawsuit is necessary to obtain the full record regarding DeKalb County’s receipt of election-related funds and hold the county accountable. The RNC is dedicated to ensuring a fair and transparent election without wrongful influence.”

Georgia GOP Chair Josh McKoon stated: “Our counties in Georgia must be held to the highest standard. Illegal influence in our elections is unacceptable and Georgians deserve full transparency from DeKalb County. We will never stop fighting for a fair and secure process to maintain voter confidence.”

Background:

  • In November 2023, the RNC submitted public records requests for information pertaining to DeKalb County’s press release announcing that they were a recipient of a $2,000,000 grant through the U.S. Alliance for Election Excellence and the county’s communications with third-party election groups.
  • After significant delays, productions of incorrect documents, and lack of diligence by the county, the RNC has still not received a complete record of documents related to the funds.
  • Our lawsuit seeks to obtain the full record of information to determine whether illegal money is being used to influence the election in DeKalb County.
