RNC Wins Critical Mail Ballot Case

WASHINGTON – Today, the RNC secured a huge victory in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, which ruled that mail ballots arriving after Election Day cannot be counted under federal law.

RNC Chairman Michael Whatley stated: "This is a major win for election integrity, upholding the law and commonsense ballot safeguards. Voters deserve nothing less than a fair and transparent election which ends on November 5th. We will continue to defend the law, fight for protection of every legal vote, and stop election interference in our country's most important election." 

Background: 

• The RNC sued over Mississippi's post-Election Day ballot receipt deadline, which allowed ballots received after the election to be counted in violation of federal law. 
• Mississippi's law illegally extended the election past the date mandated by Congress. 
• Extending ballot deadlines after Election Day undermines trust and confidence in elections. Elections must end on Election Day.
