The Republican Week

Press Release

Welcome to the RNC weekly newsletter - The Republican Week - bringing you the biggest moments.

THE MAIN THING: Democrats’ Vote to Build Back Broke

House Democrats put loyalty to Nancy Pelosi over the American people and passed Joe Biden’s Build Back Broke agenda despite bipartisan opposition to the reckless spending.

Building Back Broke: This bill will worsen inflation by pumping trillions of dollars in wasteful spending into the economy, give tax cuts to the wealthy, hike taxes on middle-class families, and addhundreds of billions to the national debt.

Progressive Wishlist: Here is what House Democrats just voted for:

Adding insult to injury: Democrats blocked commonsense amendments from making the cut. Apparently, Democrats didn’t think it was worth:

  • Preventing religious discrimination
  • Providing parents more choice in child care
  • Stopping money from going to the Chinese Communist Party

But as Democrats fight for the swamp, Republicans fight for the American people.

  • As Leader McCarthy put it: “No matter the time, the day, or the circumstances, House Republicans will always fight for you, fight for your family, and fight for our country.”

Come next November, the RNC will make sure voters remember that Democrats voted for this monstrosity, and that Republicans fought against it.

South Texas Democrat Joins GOP

Party Switch: Texas Democrat State Rep. Ryan Guillen announced Monday that he is officially switching to the Republican Party.

  • Guillen’s district stretches from the Rio Grande Valley all the way up to Wilson County, southeast of San Antonio.

His Reasoning: “I feel that my fiscally conservative, pro-business, and pro-life values are no longer in step with the Democrat Party of today,” Guillen said of his decision.

“With trailblazers like Representative Guillen, we will continue to make gains in South Texas and grow the party on our way to victories up and down the ballot in 2022.” - RNC Chairman Ronna McDaniel

  • “I am proud to welcome state Representative Ryan Guillen to the GOP. The Republican Party is the party of faith, freedom, and opportunity, and we will continue to stand for these ideals in Texas and across the country.”

Republican gains in Texas: This party switch builds on Republican momentum in South Texas and underscores Texans’ rejection of Biden’s open border policies.

  • Republican John Lujan flipped Texas House District 118 this month, a 73% Hispanic district that Biden won by 14 points in 2020.
  • Earlier this year in McAllen, an 85% Hispanic South Texas town, a Republican flipped the mayoral seat.
    • Hidalgo County, home of McAllen, went to President Biden by roughly 17 points in 2020.

What the RNC is doing: The RNC has already made historic investments in Texas this year, including opening community centers in Dallas, McAllen, Laredo, and San Antonio.

  • Democrats' radical policies are out-of-touch with Americans. Republican gains in South Texas and across the country are the beginning of the red wave coming in 2022.

Biden’s Border Crisis: Most October Crossings in DHS History

WATCH HERE:

Another record: More than 164,000 illegal immigrants were apprehended at the southern border in October.

  • The highest total for October in the history of the Department of Homeland Security.

Not slowing down: These numbers are the latest indication that Biden’s border crisis isn’t slowing down and is not under control.

  • A 128% increase over last October.
    • A 209% increase from the average number of October apprehensions during the Trump administration.
    • 12,807 unaccompanied children were apprehended
  • Over 1.6 million illegal immigrants have been caught attempting to cross the border since Biden took office.
    • This includes more than a million since Biden falsely claimed he had “gotten control” of the border.

Hurting our communities: Biden’s open border policies have enabled surges in drug trafficking, rises in crime, and a depletion of border patrol.

  • Illicit drugs are flowing into the country at an alarming rate, with 899 pounds of fentanyl and 15,631 pounds of methamphetamine seized at the southern border in October alone.
  • 10,763 illegal immigrants with a criminal history were caught crossing the border this past fiscal year, 1,904 of whom had outstanding warrants for their arrest.
  • 618 Border Patrol agents were assaulted in the line of duty in the last fiscal year, with a record 70 agents attacked in April.

Biden lied. The border crisis is not under control and Americans are paying the price.

Red States See More Jobs, Lower Unemployment

The October state jobs numbers  are out and the data doesn’t lie: States with Republican leadership are bouncing back more quickly from the pandemic slump than blue states.

By the numbers:

  • 17 of the top 20 states for jobs recovered since the coronavirus pandemic began are led by Republican governors
  • 18 of the top 20 states have Republican-controlled legislatures.
  • Red states have recovered an average of 83% of their lost jobs compared to just 70% for Democrat-run states.
  • The average unemployment rate for the nation’s 27 states with Republican governors is just 3.9%.

The difference lies in policy. Democrats have consistently championed economy-killing policies, like paying workers to stay home instead of returning to their jobs. Now, they’re demanding that small businesses force their employees to be vaccinated or be fired.

Democrats are doing everything to squander the economic rebound they inherited and continue to keep our economy from recovering.

“The trend continues for another consecutive month: Republican-led states are leading the way in job growth and getting Americans back to work,” said RNC Chairman Ronna McDaniel.

  • As Biden and Democrats continue to lie about their Build Back Broke agenda, a massive spending spree that will give tax cuts to the rich, raise taxes on hard working Americans, and weaponize the IRS against small businesses, Republican governors will continue to implement pro-growth, pro-business policies in their states.”

Biden and Co. Wage War on American Energy, Costing Families More

Democrats are determined to undermine American energy independence, and Joe Biden’s recent trip to Michigan to promote his “Build Back Broke” agenda was no different.

Buried in Biden’s $1.75 trillion reckless tax and spending package is a climate radical's wish list:

Meanwhile, the Biden administration has toyed with the idea of shutting down the Line 5 pipeline, which helps provide Michigan families and businesses with the fuel they need.

  • Closing this pipeline would result in even worse price hikes and compound our energy shortage.
  • This comes after Biden cancelled the Keystone XL pipeline earlier this year.

No laughing matter: When asked about her plan to increase U.S. oil production to help drive down gas prices, Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm cackled, “That’s hysterical!”

These progressive pet projects aren’t going to help families trying to fill their gas tanks and keep their homes warm this winter.

  • The national average for gas prices is up 61% or $1.30 from last year.
  • Granholm has already  informed Americans they’ll pay more to heat their homes this winter.

The Biden administration has repeatedly shown just how tone deaf and out of touch Democrats are to the priorities of everyday Americans.

  • RNC Chairman Ronna McDaniel: “Threatening to shut down pipelines and imposing the highest tax hikes in decades while simultaneously imposing an unconstitutional mandate on small businesses and giving tax cuts to the rich prove just how out of touch Biden and Democrats are.”
