2022 IN REVIEW: Unhinged Democrats

Rapid Response

Democrats say the craziest things, and 2022 was no exception. Throughout the year, the RNC Research team watched thousands of hours of Democrats on tape so you didn’t have to — and they said some truly unhinged things.

Here are some of the most “memorable” moments of 2022:
  • Joe Biden claimed his unilateral student loan debt bailout — which Congress never voted on — was “passed. I got it passed by a vote or two.”
    • Biden claimed after he was elected VP, he awarded his Uncle Frank a Purple Heart that he earned at the Battle of the Bulge. Except there is no evidence any of that is true and Biden’s uncle died in 1999, a decade before Biden became VP.
    • Biden said he “really enjoyed teaching” when he was a “professor” at the University of Pennsylvania — where he was paid $1 million but never taught a single class.
    • Biden said he was “deeply proud” of his wife’s work on an initiative “she started with Michelle Obama when she was vice president.”
    • Biden claimed he has “been in and out of Afghanistan, Iran, and Iraq … over 50 times, 48 times,” which isn’t even close to being true.
    • Biden told the 82nd Airborne they were going to Ukraine shortly after Russia’s invasion.
    • Biden landed in Israel and immediately asked, “What am I doing?”
    • Biden mistakenly thanked Colombia instead of Cambodia for hosting the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit.
    • Biden declared he is for “no more drilling.”
    • Biden claimed gas was “over $5” when he took office, but the average gas price was actually $2.39/gal.
    • Biden arrived in a MASSIVE motorcade of gas guzzling SUVs to his speech on climate change.
    • Biden laughed hysterically and clapped as he was reminded how prices for “gas is up, rent is up, food is up” during his administration.
    • Biden said he was “sick of” Americans who “think the reason for inflation is government spending more money.”
    • Biden called the economy “strong as hell” amid sky-high inflation, historic gas prices, and tanking markets.
    • Biden bragged the stock market “has hit record after record after record on my watch.”
    • Biden claimed he “cut the federal debt in half – a fact!” — which was absolutely not a fact.
    • Biden yelled about food shortages (which continue to happen under his own administration).
    • Biden claimed he has made things better, but people are just “psychologically” unable to feel happy.
    • Biden said “it’s wrong” for states to ban sex reassignment surgery and puberty blockers for kids.
    • Biden said, “The idea we still allow semi-automatic weapons to be purchased is sick.”
    • A projectile awkwardly landed on Biden’s jacket during a speech in Iowa.
    • Biden said there are “more important things going on” than visiting the southern border.
    • Biden opened a speech “with two words: made in America.”
    • Biden claimed “we went to 54 states” in 2018.
    • Biden called NHL commissioner Gary Bettman “Gary Batman.”
    • Biden malfunctioned during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, so they had to quickly cut to a commercial break.
    • Biden got lost and confused trying to get off stage after his own speech.
    • Biden wandered off after his speech.
    • Biden was ignored by virtually everybody at his own event.
    • Biden completely malfunctioned when he was asked about running for re-election.
    • Biden told teachers: “They’re not somebody else’s children. They’re yours when you’re in the classroom.”
  • In one of her many signature word salads, Kamala Harris repeatedly described “the significance of the passage of time.”
    • Harris brilliantly explained Russia's invasion of Ukraine: “Ukraine is a country in Europe. It exists next to another country called Russia. Russia is a bigger country.”
    • Harris praised the U.S. “alliance with the Republic of North Korea” during a speech in South Korea.
    • On a visit to the DMZ, Harris asked the soldiers: “Have you seen the photographs from the Webb telescope?”
    • Harris opened a meeting by stating, “I am Kamala Harris, my pronouns are ‘she’ and ‘her.’”
    • Asked if she was concerned about a recession, Harris responded, “I think that there can be no higher priority than that we have been clear is our highest priority.”
    • Harris gave a runaround definition of “equity.”
  • During her Supreme Court confirmation hearing, Ketanji Brown-Jackson said she was unable to define the word “woman” because she is “not a biologist.”
  • Jen Psaki mocked Americans discussing the “consequences” of Democrats’ “soft-on-crime” policies: “What does that even mean?”
  • Karine Jean-Pierre claimed the Biden administration “[does] not politicize the Department of Justice.”
    • Jean-Pierre said Asian American parents who oppose racial quotas in college admissions are “extreme” and “ultra MAGA.”
    • Jean-Pierre said it is “important” to have a “conversation” about changing the name of the Atlanta Braves.
  • Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm told Americans the way to deal with 40-year high inflation was to get their homes “entirely weatherized” and install solar panels.
  • “Climate czar” John Kerry said “we absolutely don’t” need to drill for more oil and gas.
  • Biden official Samantha Power celebrated a fertilizer shortage that forced farmers to “hasten transitions to natural solutions, like manure and compost,” then said, “Never let a crisis go to waste.”
  • HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra indicated he supports “HHS funding being [used for] sex reassignment surgeries on minors.”
  • Rachel Levine, Biden’s assistant secretary for health, said we should “empower” kids to go on puberty blockers and get sex reassignment surgery.
  • Biden medical advisor Dr. Ashish Jha shared an assessment after Biden tested positive for Covid: “He ate breakfast and lunch fully. He actually showed me his plate!”
  • Top Biden medical advisor Anthony Fauci insisted he “had nothing to do with” schools being shut down during the pandemic.
  • Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said buying oil from Iran was “on the table.”
  • Interior Secretary Deb Haaland couldn’t explain a memo from her own department that effectively called to shut down the oil and gas industry.
  • New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries — now the incoming House Democrat leader — said Democrats’ federal elections takeover bill was “inspired by Hugo Chavez…Cesar Chavez.”
  • Massachusetts Rep. Katherine Clark — now the incoming House Democrat whip — recalled her “middle child waking up with nightmares over concern around climate change.”
  • California Rep. Nancy Pelosi said Democrats should “change that subject” when Americans try to talk about the sky-high inflation and prices under Biden.
  • New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez bragged about helping “huge amounts” of illegal immigrants get stimulus checks.
  • Ocasio-Cortez said, “Inflation is not going up due to government policies. Inflation is going up due to Wall Street decisions.”
  • Minnesota Rep. Angie Craig said the quiet part out loud: “I will never stop standing up for Big Pharma and standing against my constituents!”
  • California Rep. Maxine Waters called on Americans to “defy” the Supreme Court: “The hell with the Supreme Court.”
  • Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee downplayed the crimes of Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout: “His weapons might’ve been used to kill Americans, but he has not killed Americans.”
  • Rhode Island Rep. David Cicilline said, “Spare me the bullshit about constitutional rights.”
  • New York Sen. Chuck Schumer said Democrats wanted an immigration bill because “we have a population that is not reproducing on its own with the same level that it used to,” then called for amnesty for “all 11 million or however many” illegal immigrants in the US.
  • Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren called for “a stop” to crisis pregnancy centers “right now.”
  • Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar suggested voting for Democrats would stop hurricanes.
  • New York Gov. Kathy Hochul told Republicans to “jump on a bus and head down to Florida where you belong.”
  • New York Democrat State Senator-elect Kristen Gonzalez said she “proved that socialism wins…we will not stop until we see a socialist slate across this city.”
  • Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser unironically complained they “don’t have an infrastructure to handle this type of and level of immigration to our city…we’re not Texas.”
  • Failed Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams called a heartbeat at six weeks “a manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman’s body.”

There will undoubtedly be no shortage of Democrat absurdity in 2023 — and we’ll be here with the receipts.
