About Those Talking Points...

Biden began 2024 by touting his economy with gusto.

“The results speak for themselves,” one Biden aide proclaimed.

So where have those talking points gone?

The answer is simple: Biden’s proclamation that “folks are starting to feel” benefits from his economy was, at best, fleeting.

• GAS PRICES: The nationwide average for regular gas is currently $3.35/gallon — up nine cents from a week ago, 21 cents from a month ago, and ~40 percent from when Biden took office.
  • There’s a reason Biden last spoke of gas prices on February 14.
     
• INFLATION: The Personal Consumption Expenditures Price Index (PCE) — the Federal Reserve’s preferred measure of inflation — shot up by 0.3 percent in January. Core PCE, which excludes food and energy, was up by 0.4 percent — the highest month-to-month reading in a year.
  • We already knew progress on inflation had stalled; the three-month annualized core inflation rate accelerated last month.
  • Now, we’re learning Americans’ incomes “didn’t rise at all” in January when accounting for inflation and taxes.
     
• CONSUMER SENTIMENT: Americans’ feelings about the economy are back on the decline. Consumer sentiment — a metric over which Biden’s team has long obsessed — declined in February, according to the University of Michigan and the Conference Board.
  • Biden, who often joined his team in incessantly touting the metric, hasn’t mentioned it remarks since February 23.

A strong majority of Americans agree: the Biden economy just isn’t cutting it. In fact, most Americans say the economy fared better under President Trump and believe prices will go up if Biden is elected to a second term.

Biden, who loves to blame private companies instead of his inflationary policies, just doesn’t get it.

And he never will.
