On August 19, 2021, Joe Biden promised, “if there are American citizens left, we’re going to stay until we get them all out.”
But during today’s hearing before the House Foreign Affairs Committee – over 18 months after the withdrawal – Secretary of State Antony Blinken admitted 175 Americans are still in Afghanistan, including “several” who are being held hostage by the Taliban.

After this revelation, Blinken refused to commit to further in-person testimony on the withdrawal.
