Joe Biden and Catherine Cortez Masto have put thousands of Nevada workers between a rock and a hard place.
THE HARD PLACE: Earlier this year, Biden’s IRS reversed a Trump decision to let struggling workers keep more of their money and raised the tip allocation rate. Even according to organizations that endorsed Biden, this effectively RAISED taxes ABOVE 2019’s pre-pandemic levels on tipped-workers.
Looks like that’s yet another time Biden broke his promise to not raise taxes on the middle class. As one restaurant server noted, “it's been a nightmare” as workers that rely on tips are now taking home often hundreds of dollars less in their paychecks.
THE ROCK: Employees can opt out of the tip allocation rate agreements, but if they do, they face audits from the IRS. That’s a threat that’s made all more real when considering that 50% of IRS audits in 2021 targeted Americans making under $75,000 and Cortez Masto voted for 87,000 new IRS enforcers to go after small businesses and the middle class.
Higher taxes or audits – that’s the choice Biden and Cortez Masto gave Nevada workers. It’s a choice Americans can’t afford as real wages fall and prices continue to soar.
