In recent weeks, Biden has had a lot to say when it comes to Social Security and Medicare — falsely lambasting Republicans over a non-existent plan to cut Social Security benefits and sunset entitlement programs.
But as new reporting from CNN’s KFILE confirms, the person who actually called for doing these things was Joe Biden.
Biden has accused Republicans of planning to cut entitlement programs and increase the retirement age for Social Security. What Biden has conveniently omitted, however, is he spent his entire career championing those exact positions.
- In 1975, Biden wrote the “FIRST EVER” federal sunset bill — which included no exemptions for Social Security or Medicare — and frequently bragged of his efforts to enact it.
- “I wanted four years, but I’ll take 10 years, because right now we don’t have any ‘sunset,” Biden said.
- In 1978, Biden floated cutting federal spending — including “restructuring” Social Security.
- “How can we not cut programs and still balance the budget?” Biden asked.
- In 1987, Biden admitted Social Security was in crisis — and proposed “tying Social Security to actuarial tables on life expectancy.”
- “I realize it’s taboo for a Democrat to even discuss the Social Security system in any terms other than to say, ‘don’t touch anything,’” Biden said.
- In 1995, Biden harkened back to his plan to “freeze” federal spending — including Social Security and Medicare benefits.
- “When I argued that we should freeze federal spending, I meant Social Security, as well. I meant Medicare and Medicaid. I meant veterans’ benefits. I meant every single solitary thing in the government.”
- In 2005, Biden said he was open to a discussion on “raising the cap,” “raising the retirement age,” “raising the tax,” and “cutting benefits” for Social Security.
Speaker McCarthy has declared Social Security and Medicare cuts “OFF THE TABLE,” but that’s not enough for a chronic liar like Biden. Instead, Biden is lying about Republicans — possibly to distract from his abysmal approval rating.
