Biden To Middle Class: Pay More Taxes

Rapid Response

Does Joe Biden want taxes on the middle class to go up?

  • The White House put out a “fact sheet” (the word “fact” is obviously used loosely) this morning in which Biden basically endorses allowing the 2017 middle-class tax cuts to expire: “House Republican leaders have also committed to extend the expiring Trump tax cuts, a $2.7 trillion debt increase.”
  • In attacking the Republican tax cuts, the White House once again pushes the debunked narrative that the middle class did not see savings. From The Washington Post: “The Tax Policy Center found that 80.4 percent of all taxpayers would have a tax cut, compared with about 5 percent experiencing a tax increase. In the middle quintile, 91 percent would get a tax cut, averaging about $1,090.

So Biden is attacking people who don’t want middle-class taxes to go up? That’s a bizarre talking point. It’s also a promise broken. If Biden wants to extend those tax cuts, then his attack is completely dishonest.

If families think they are struggling to afford the necessities now, wait until Biden makes sure their taxes go up.
