Biden's "Dog and Pony Show" at the Border

Joe Biden finally visited the southern border after more than 50 years in politics — though it was more of a drive-by.

Biden, who has overseen the worst border crisis on record, left El Paso just as quickly as he arrived.

To many El Paso residents, Biden’s drive-by was nothing more than a photo op:

• “We continue to put band-aids on bullet wounds,” said El Paso City Representative Isabel Salcido.
• “He didn’t get to see the real difficulties,” said El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego (D).
• “A dog and pony show,” said one local Texas reporter.
• “They’ve spent days clearing out the illegals, cleaning up the trash and making it look like we’re not in crisis. WE ARE IN A CRISIS,” said Border Security Coalition president Irene Armendariz-Jackson.
• “I’m really disappointed,” said El Pasoan Nino Garcia.
• “He should've been here on the streets of downtown where all the immigrants are," said El Pasoan Maria Leonor Estupiñan.

Biden’s trip was highly sanitized and tightly controlled, with the bulk of it spent in parking lots and offices.

At a press conference in the Rio Grande Valley, RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel blasted Biden’s unwillingness to see the problems where they are: “Let’s remind everybody that we’re in McAllen, Texas and the Rio Grande Valley where so much of this is happening — and President Biden has still never been here.”

So far, Biden has tried ignoring the border, declaring victory, and lying about it — and after yesterday’s drive-by, don’t expect things to change.
