Joe Biden is ignoring his advisers’ own advice.
In its first hours, the Biden administration blocked further construction of the border wall system, and suspended enforcement of many deportation orders.
Biden’s team, though, has itself stressed that restrictions on travel into and out of the country are an important part of responding to the coronavirus. The administration even concedes that there are “immediate operational challenges at the southwest border in the midst of the most serious global public health crisis in a century.”
With the pandemic worsening, and more contagious variants emerging around the world, this is not the time to be lifting restrictions on international travel.

But it’s Biden’s own policies that are already compounding this “immediate operational challenge,” with one man headed to the border even directly citing Biden’s promise to suspend deportations, saying, Biden “is giving us 100 days to get to the U.S.”
A secure, legal immigration system is always important, but this is an especially bad time to be undermining border security.
