Ahead of tonight’s debate in North Carolina, it’s worth remembering that there’s a reason the North Carolina Police Benevolent Association endorsed Ted Budd, emphatically reversing its previous support of Cheri Beasley. There’s a reason the North Carolina Troopers Association rejected Beasley and backs Budd. There’s a reason the family of police officers are saying “she’s for the criminals and not for the law officers.”
Beasley has decided to partner with defund the police extremists and turn her back on law enforcement.
As if fundraising with defund the police activists is not enough, she wants to eliminate important tools like cash bail.
In case you aren’t familiar, ending cash bail, or “bail reform” as proponents ridiculously call it, has been a disaster in New York. Among those New York has allowed to stay on the streets: people who attacked cops, mugged people with a weapon, and committed heinous hate crimes. Many of those people released committed other offenses. One man out on bail after multiple arrests killed a woman.
Beasley would bring these policies to the Senate and vote to eliminate the filibuster to get them passed. North Carolina voters won’t give her the chance.
