Defunding Democrats listened to Harris

Rapid Response

Defund-the-police Democrats took their cues from Kamala Harris.

During the campaign, Harris said: “It is wrongheaded thinking to think that the only way you’re going to get communities to be safe is to put more police officers on the street.”

Democrat-run cities listened, and the result has been a catastrophic spike in violent crime:

  • In Chicago, gang members now outnumber the city’s police officers by ten to one.
  • In Washington, D.C., Police Chief Robert Contee is begging for more resources: “We have a shrinking workforce. I have a definitive amount of resources. 200 or some officers less this year than what I had last year.”
  • In Portland, there is a “staffing crisis,” as 129 officers have either resigned or retired since July of last year and budget cuts prevent positions from being filled.
  • In San Francisco, residents say “we need more police officers.”
  • In Oakland, officers say they are short-staffed. During one ride-along, ABC News reported that there were only 38 officers to police a population of over 200,000 people.
  • In Austin, police vacancies are nearing 200 and 911 response calls are taking nearly three minutes longer.

As NBC News reports: “It’s a problem that’s exploded nationwide … more and more officers say they feel villainized like never before.”

WATCH: Kamala Harris said she wanted fewer police officers on the streets, now crime is SKYROCKETING

Harris wanted fewer police, Democrats listened, and Americans are grappling with the consequences.
