Democrats' Authoritarian Power Grab Implodes in Virginia

Rapid Response

Virginia Democrats’ gerrymandering scheme went from champagne popping to total meltdown in a matter of days.

After the Virginia Supreme Court struck down Democrats’ blatant power grab in a humiliating blow despite tens of millions spent, Democrats also botched their emergency appeal in spectacular fashion. After initially misspelling both “Virginia” and “senator” in a last-minute filing to delay the order, they then addressed their emergency application to the wrong court altogether.

Instead of respecting the rule of law, Democrats are pushing a blatantly political ploy to slash the Virginia Supreme Court retirement age from 75 to 54 – a manufactured cutoff designed to purge every sitting justice overnight and let Democrats pack the court with judges who share their agenda.

So far, Virginia Democrats:

  • Tried to rig the constitutional amendment process to cement partisan power.
  • Burned nearly $70 million on a failed gerrymandering scheme to silence voters and manipulate elections.
  • Proposed to gut and reshape the Virginia Supreme Court after losing a ruling they didn’t like.
  • Proved they only support “democracy” when they control the outcome.

“If this is what Democrats are willing to do in Virginia after losing one court case, imagine what they would do with full control of Congress. Democrats love to lecture Americans about ‘authoritarianism,’ but the moment they don’t get their way, they threaten courts, attack institutions, and try to rewrite the rules to keep power. Virginians – and all Americans – should pay attention,” – RNC Election Integrity Communications Director Ally Triolo.
