Democrats' D.C. Crime Denial

Rapid Response

According to Democrat D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson: “There is not a crime crisis in Washington, D.C.

He is wrong.

In reality, crime is up over 20% from last year. Homicides are up almost 20%, and the city has passed over 200 homicides for two years in a row. The last year the city hit 200 homicides was 2003. To make matters worse, “right now, the average homicide suspect has been arrested eleven times prior to them committing a homicide” according to the D.C Police Chief Robert Contee.

That is unacceptable. That is a crime crisis. And in reaction to this crisis, 173 House Democrats backed a law that reduces penalties for murders, carjackings, armed robberies, armed home invasions, and sexual assault offenses. Thankfully, we have a Republican House majority that stopped D.C.’s pro-crime agenda.
