What was Democrats’ excuse for refusing to meet on the debt limit? On March 30, Sen. Chuck Schumer put it clearly – he insisted they couldn’t even discuss fiscal responsibility until the House GOP passed their plan.
CHUCK SCHUMER (3/30/23): "You can't sit down and discuss something if you don't have a plan. @SpeakerMcCarthy just says, 'Let's meet.' But what are they going to do, discuss the weather? … Show us your plan."

Republicans passed a plan last week. Where is Biden and Schumer? pic.twitter.com/AzmaXIit7N
Honestly, that excuse never held much weight. But now that House Republicans have introduced a plan and passed it, they have no more excuses to keep obstructing. Biden STILL hasn’t reached out to Speaker Kevin McCarthy after Republicans passed their commonsense plan. Biden, Schumer, and Democrats need to stop threatening default if they can’t force through their destructive, inflationary agenda.
Bottom line: House Republicans passed a plan. Biden hasn’t. Senate Democrats haven’t. It’s time to sit down and negotiate.
