Democrats Just Shut Down The Government; Here’s What That Means In Their Own Words

Rapid Response

Democrats just shut down the government — playing politics with the lives of veterans, seniors, law enforcement, and other Americans who did not want this.

There is a reason Democrats’ favorability is at a historic low. They are putting far-left demands ahead of the American people.

Republicans proposed a CLEAN continuing resolution to keep the government funded until November 21. But Democrats — despite previous support for clean CRs — blocked it and instead demanded  $1.5 trillion in new spending for their radical wish list.

By their own admission, Democrats know the damage this shutdown will cause:

  • Senate Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer: “If the government shuts down, it will be average Americans who suffer most...”
  • House Democrat Leader Hakeem Jeffries: “Families will be hurt. Farmers will be hurt. Border security and Border Patrol agents will not be paid”
  • Arizona Senator Mark Kelly: “A government shutdown would have serious impacts... Congress needs to work together to prevent a shutdown.”
  • Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego: A government shutdown “would be a disaster for Arizona families.”
  • California Rep. Nancy Pelosi: “Our country does not need any shutdown and there is no good shutdown.”
  • California Rep. Mark Takano: “Shutting down the government is the worst thing … for veterans and our country.”
  • California Senator Adam Schiff: If the government shut down, “service members in the military would be forced to go to work and not get paid.
  • Michigan Senator Gary Peters: “A government shutdown will be a disaster for our economy and for people in Michigan and across the country.
  • Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar: “Shutdowns are not good for the economy.”
  • Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed: ”A government shutdown of any duration would harm hardworking Americans.”
  • Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders: A government shutdown is “a serious and dangerous action that we must do everything possible to prevent.”
  • Virginia Senator Mark Warner: “Government shutdowns unleash chaos on federal workers, delay pay for servicemembers, and weaken our position on the global stage.”
  • Virginia Senator Tim Kaine read letters from his constituents describing the effects of a government shutdown including, delayed military training, lost veterans' services, and closed parks

Democrats are seen as weak amongst their voters because they are — they caved to the far-left, played partisan politics, and forced this shutdown. They own it.
