Democrats voted 15 times to
shut down the government, fully aware they were cutting off pay and benefits
from the most vulnerable Americans. They did it anyway.
In their own words, Democrats
admitted shutting down the government would harm Americans — and they voted for
it anyway:
- Senator Dick Durbin:
"They're crude, and they're cruel, and there are innocent
victims."
- Senator Tim Kaine: “My state has
been uniquely hurt, uniquely hurt, by the shutdown."
- Senator Jeanne Shaheen: We've
got "air traffic control that’s a mess...workers who are not getting
paid...people who can’t get food.”
- Senator Chuck Schumer:
"Workers missing their paychecks...families wondering how they're
going to pay the rent or pay for childcare."
- Senator Ruben Gallego: “This
does suck.”
- Senator Peter Welch:
"Shutdowns are terrible."
- Senator Mark Warner: "We're
going to have millions of Americans going without their SNAP benefits.”
- Leader Hakeem Jeffries:
"Over a million New Yorkers are at risk of going hungry."
- Rep. Ami Bera: "Too many
families are struggling to put food on their table."
- Rep. Brendan Boyle: "I
acknowledge that there is real pain and that pain may actually increase
here in the days and weeks ahead."
- Rep. Gabe Vasquez: "A
government shutdown is harmful.”
- Rep. Emilia Sykes: "We
know that people are going to suffer...people will go hungry."
- Rep. Katherine Clark:
"Of course there will be families that are going to suffer.”
- Rep. Debbie Dingell: “Let us
be clear: they are hurting.”
- Rep. Becca Balint: "I
know it's an incredibly challenging time.”
- Rep. Tom Suozzi: "It's a
very tough time for everybody.”
Democrats are willing to put
the lives of their own constituents at risk just to get what they want. Despite
all of the pain they caused the American people for 43 days,
accomplishing nothing in the process, they think it was "worth it.”
