Democrats Push For Shutdown Over Americans

Rapid Response

Democrats are so out of touch they’re putting veterans, seniors, and public safety at risk to fight for their far-left wish list instead.

Democrats want to undo the progress of the One, Big, Beautiful Bill and other America First policies, putting politics over working families.

Republicans are fighting for everyday Americans. Just look at the widespread voter support for the One, Big, Beautiful Bill:

  • 72% favor requiring able-bodied, working-age adults who receive Medicaid to at least look for work or participate in community service part-time
  • 71% are more likely to vote for candidates who support the tax cuts in the OBBB
  • 68% favor strengthening Medicaid eligibility integrity, which would require states to better screen enrollees and to immediately end coverage of people who are ineligible
  • 68% favor providing funding and equipment for the U.S. Military to disrupt illegal drug supply chains and other forms of illicit trafficking in order to support U.S. law enforcement in their fight against drug cartels
  • 63% favor ending federal income tax on tips
  • 59% favor ending federal income tax on overtime pay
  • 57% favor hiring nearly 40,000 additional ICE and border patrol agents to address illegal immigration as well as drug and human trafficking

Democrats know shutdowns hurt Americans, yet they’d still rather shut down the government than pass a clean resolution:

  • Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego: A government shutdown "would be a disaster for Arizona families."
  • Democrat Leader Chuck Schumer: "If the government shuts down, it will be average Americans who suffer most..."
  • California Rep. Nancy Pelosi: "Our country does not need any shutdown and there is no good shutdown."
  • California Senator Adam Schiff: If the government shut down, employees "would've not gotten their paychecks" and "service members in the military would be forced to go to work and not get paid.
  • Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar: "Shutdowns are not good for the economy."
  • Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed: "A government shutdown of any duration would harm hardworking Americans."
  • Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders: A government shutdown is "a serious and dangerous action that we must do everything possible to prevent."
  • Virginia Senator Tim Kaine read letters from his constituents describing the effects of a government shutdown including, delayed military training, lost veterans' services, and closed parks

Democrats should stand by their own words and support the Republican CLEAN budget bill that prevents a shutdown and continues funding through November 21.
