Democrats Stood By Platner Then Forced Him Out

Rapid Response

Last night, Graham Platner was forced out of the Senate Race in Maine by Democrats who backed him despite multiple disturbing comments and allegations. Only when it was politically inconvenient did Democrats force him out — a playbook they are recycling from 2024.

What people are saying about Democrats who stayed by Platner's side until it was politically inconvenient:

  • Brad Todd: “We heard he was physically abusive by a corroborated story from a longtime girlfriend, Democrats in Washington and in Maine just ignored it."
  • John Fetterman: “Bernie Sanders needs to apologize to the voters of Maine…More than anyone he pushed [Graham Platner] into the election…”
  • Brad Todd: “Kirsten Gillibrand, Chair of the DSCC was a catalyst for the Me Too movement...But when it came time to maybe put a Senate seat in Maine at risk, she didn’t believe Lyndsey Fifield.”
  • Kaylee McGhee: “Essentially what [Democrats] have communicated to voters in Maine is that they were just fine with the Totenkopf tattoo…They were just fine with a host of other scandals…”
  • Brad Todd: “Graham Platner has been dangerous from the very jump and Democrats encouraged him every step of the way.”
  • Katie Zacharia: “They should have gotten the message a lot earlier, the Democrats are far behind, they should never have embraced Platner."

Platner has several egregious offenses that Democrats defended, including saying he would rape someone to show “dominance,” victims should “act like adults” to avoid rape, and allegations of abusing his ex-girlfriend.

It was only when Democrats realized Platner would be a liability for their chances of winning the Maine Senate seat did they retract their support, proving — as they did in 2024 — that Democrats care about one thing only: power.
