Even Dems Pan Biden's Gas Tax Gimmick

Rapid Response

Biden’s proposed gas tax ‘holiday’ is a thinly veiled attempt to make up for an historically-low approval rating ahead of the midterm elections – a “gimmick,” you might say.

Just take the words of prominent Democrats:
  • Barack Obama: “For us to suggest 30 cents a day for three months is real relief…we are not tackling the problem.”
  • House Speaker Nancy Pelosi: “Very showbiz, OK? ‘Let’s just do something, there it is.’ But it is not necessarily landing in the pocket of the consumer.”
  • House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer: “I have not been a proponent of the gas tax [holiday]. I just don’t know that it gives much relief.”
  • Sen. Joe Manchin: “Skeptical.”
  • Sen. Tom Carper: “Shortsighted and inefficient.”
  • Rep. Richie Neal: “There is no guarantee that any sort of suspension of the gas tax will be passed on to consumers.”
    • Neal: “Is the savings really going to flow to the consumer?”
  • Rep. Peter DeFazio: “Suspending the federal gas tax will not provide meaningful relief.”
It’s not just Democrat politicians coming out against Biden’s gas tax gimmick:

After months of sky-high gas prices, why is Biden pushing this now?

Because he’ll say anything to distract from his failures.
