Experts: Biden's SPR release could make things worse

Rapid Response

There is widespread agreement that Biden’s latest release from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve is unlikely to lead to gas “prices dropping any meaningful way.” In fact, industry experts say it could make the energy problem worse:

  • The Independent Petroleum Association of America: The release “not only reduces our capacity to protect ourselves in case of a true emergency in the future, but also increases America’s reliance on the politically volatile countries that currently provide most of our oil.”
  • Energy analysts at Sanford C. Bernstein predict prices are likely to climb in 2023, warning, “if the SPR has been partially exhausted, it can lead to a steeper escalation in prices.”

As Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan laid out in detail, Biden has waged war on American energy. Indeed, new oil leases have “slowed dramatically” under Biden according to The Wall Street Journal.

The pain at the pump is not an accident, it was always the point of Biden’s policies.
