“Where’s Pete Buttigieg?” Probably on TV.

After weeks of silence, Buttigieg has rushed to take interviews in recent days — but instead of taking responsibility or pledging a fix, Buttigieg made one excuse after another for his failed response:

• “HAPPENS ALL THE TIME!” Demonstrating his remarkable inability to read the room, Buttigieg’s initial response was to downplay the disaster: “While this horrible situation has gotten a particularly high amount of attention, there are roughly 1,000 cases a year of a train derailing.”

• “TRUST ME, I WAS A MAYOR!” Harkening back to his days as the mayor of South Bend, Indiana — where he couldn’t even fix potholes — Buttigieg assured residents the crisis was under control: “Look, I was mayor of my hometown…we dealt with a lot of disasters.”

• STILL “PLANNING TO COME.” Almost three weeks after the disaster, Buttigieg finally promised to visit the area — eventually.
