After his botched withdrawal, Joe Biden said he “priced in” the “chaos” in Afghanistan into his decision. Is Biden a liar or heartless?
The case for liar: His new claims directly contradict his statements for months, echoed by his administration, insisting they would conduct an orderly withdrawal and that Kabul’s fall would be “highly unlikely.”

The case for heartless: If his new claims are true, Biden knew Kabul would fall to the Taliban, knew the chaos that would ensue, and he went on vacation anyway as thousands of Americans were still in Afghanistan.
He “priced in” people falling from airplanes as they tried to escape. He “priced in” Americans trapped in their homes frightened for their lives. He “priced in” not having a plan to rescue these Americans. He “priced in” desperate Americans screaming for help as they are blocked from the airport.
During his interview, Biden callously dismissed those horrifying images, falsely claiming they happened 4 to 5 days ago. They happened on Monday.
