More than 500 million lethal doses

According to newly released data from Customs and Border Protection, enough fentanyl was seized at the border in August for more than 500 million lethal doses. Experts warn this number indicates that MUCH more was smuggled in undetected:

  • Dr. Joshua Sharfstein of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health: “If they're seizing a lot, it's because a lot is coming in.”
  • Retired Drug Enforcement Administration official Kyle Williamson, who has more than 30 years of experience on drug smuggling at the border: “It’s the worst it's ever been. There's no good news here. And the amount of methamphetamine and fentanyl coming in right now is unprecedented.”
  • CBS News’ Janet Shamlian: “Drugs coming across the border here are fueling an unprecedented epidemic across the country, the toll of which can be counted in the skyrocketing number of overdose deaths…as agents say, the cartels use a flood of migrants to move a river of drugs.”

Indeed, sheriffs in states all over the country, including Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Colorado, and New Hampshire, are seeing a surge in fentanyl pills linked to border smuggling.

The crisis is so severe, fentanyl-driven overdose fatalities are now the leading cause of death for people aged 18 to 45 years old. According to Biden's DEA Administrator Anne Milgram, Mexican cartels are “killing Americans with fentanyl at catastrophic and record rates like we've never seen before.”

But Biden and Harris have decided to ignore this carnage. Senate Democrats have blocked one border-security measure after another. Enough is enough. America needs a secure border.
