No answer on sentencing

The American people still don’t have an adequate answer from Ketanji Brown Jackson on her sentencing record.

Here were some of her “answers”:

• She implied lower sentences were necessary for child porn offenses because these heinous crimes are easier to commit on the internet
• She said she gave lower sentences because of the invention of the computer
• She questioned the deterrent power of harsher sentences
• She suggested drug trafficking crimes have “no victims”
• She cited the “diplomas and certificates” of one of the child predators she gave a lenient sentence to
• She referenced “policy” disagreements that influenced her sentencing
  • And while she said she allowed “policy” disagreements to influence sentencing, she refused to comment on the appropriate punishment for a person convicted of rape, convicted of murder, or convicted on a child pornography charge.
• She struggled to answer why she apologized to drug smugglers and child predators
• She cited “personal circumstances of the defendant” even though she went below the prosecutors’ recommendations 100% of the time on child predator cases
• She could not defend her past comments saying some child predators “have other motivations… being in a group,” and that an 18-year-old predator was “peers” with his victims

The questions were detailed days in advance, are about Jackson’s own comments and actions, and were not sprung on her. We are still waiting for an adequate answer, but one thing is for sure: Democrats don’t want her to answer any more questions on her record.
