Remember when Biden said this about Nord Stream 2?

Rapid Response

Joe Biden was warned that waiving sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline would threaten security in Europe.

His own State Department warned him, eight EU countries in Eastern Europe warned him, the European Parliament warned him when they voted overwhelmingly to block work on the pipeline, and the Ukrainian parliament warned him when they backed a resolution calling on U.S. lawmakers to override Biden’s decision to waive sanctions.

In fact, it’s a warning Biden gave himself not too long ago.

In 2016, Biden said of Russia’s Nord Stream 2 pipeline: “I know it will fundamentally destabilize Ukraine.”

But as president, Biden ignored his own advice and handed Putin a major geopolitical win by waiving sanctions on his pipeline, claiming that imposing sanctions did not “make any sense” and was “counterproductive.”

Sen. Ted Cruz and Republicans in the Senate tried to remedy Biden’s horrible judgment by reinstating sanctions, but Democrats effectively filibustered to stop him.

Biden was warned, and he waived sanctions anyway. And that’s a mistake no number of hashtags and Spotify playlists from the Biden administration can fix.
