The dubious Democrat doublespeak of S.1

Rapid Response

If Democrats now support voter ID, why are they pushing to eviscerate it with S. 1?

Sen. Raphael Warnock and lead disinformation peddler Stacey Abrams suddenly claim they never objected to voter ID and actually support it. That’s obviously false, but even so, how do they square this newfound conviction with H.R.1 / S. 1?

H.R. 1 / S. 1 would eviscerate commonsense state voter ID laws currently in place in 36 states. Instead, S.1 would mandate that individuals can vote by simply attesting they are who they claim to be.

Unfortunately for Democrat officials attacking commonsense election integrity measures, voter ID provisions are overwhelmingly popular.

  • On Monday, a Monmouth University poll found that 80% of Americans supported requiring a photo ID to vote, including 84% of non-white voters, 77% of white voters, 87% of independents and 62% of Democrats.

  • A Rasmussen poll in March 2021 showed that 69% of Black voters and 75% overall support voter ID laws.
  • A recent poll of Georgians found that 65% of individuals surveyed support requiring a driver’s license number to verify absentee ballots.
  • In 2018, the Pew Research Center found that 76% of Americans favored requiring everyone to show a government-issued photo ID in order to vote, versus only 23% who opposed it.
  • In 2016, Gallup found that four in five Americans support voter ID laws.

Someone should tell Warnock and Abrams that the Democrats’ S. 1 would tear down the very provisions they claim no one has every objected to…unless they already know, and their claims are just feeble attempts to gaslight their way into forcing through a partisan power grab.
