Below is a picture of what officials label “rainbow fentanyl,” and it’s part of a devastating crisis of fentanyl overdoses in communities across the country.
According to the DEA, “rainbow fentanyl” is designed by the cartels to target children and teens. Fentanyl overdoses are now the leading cause of death for Americans age 18 to 45 years old, as synthetic opioid deaths have skyrocketed 80% in two years. The DEA warns that Mexican cartels are “killing Americans with fentanyl at catastrophic and record rates like we’ve never seen before.”
Every community has been effected, and people have been killed as young as four months old and as old as 81 years old.
- In Pennsylvania, Penn State warned students about the dangers of “rainbow fentanyl,” and Aleta Kammerer, a Pennsylvania parent, sounded the alarm earlier this year after multiple counterfeit vape pens containing fentanyl were confiscated from students in Pennsylvania's Mifflin School District.
- In New Hampshire, Manchester and Nashua report that 86 people overdosed on opioids in July 2022, and over 500 have in the past year.
- In Arizona, communities are reeling, and parents rallied at the White House this month calling on the Biden administration to do more to stop the fentanyl crisis.
- In Georgia, “rainbow fentanyl” has been found in the metro Atlanta area.
- In Nevada, a 16-year-old girl from Las Vegas was found dead in her friend’s apartment after overdosing on fentanyl pills from a Mexican dealer.
We must address this crisis. We must secure the border.
