The hypocrisy of the Texas Democrats' "filibuster"

Rapid Response

Texas Democrats support the filibuster – well, that’s if you define the filibuster as circumventing established rules to break quorum, chartering a private plane to D.C., and enjoying a few Miller Lites.

Because that’s exactly what Texas Democrats did Monday night.

There is no precedent for what Texas Democrats did in rule, norm, or practice, but they did it anyway. And now they have the audacity to call on the Senate to eliminate the filibuster, which is established by rule, norm, and practice. Just ask the Senate Democrats who used it 327 times in 2020 and have supported it for decades.

What shameless hypocrites.

They can’t even keep their argument straight for 2 minutes. In the span of a single answer, one Texas Democrat made the exact case for the filibuster right before he said he wants to eliminate it!

“Texas Democrats are the ultimate minority. We don't hold the majority in the House, we don't hold the majority in the State Senate, we don't have the governor's mansion. And yet, we were able to find a way to stop this bill in its tracks.”

It’s clear Democrats’ governing philosophy on the filibuster is: “if I do it, it’s ok, if you do it, it’s not.” And while they expose their complete hypocrisy, they baselessly smear election integrity laws that are widely-supported by the American people.

Texas Democrats like to paint themselves as heroes, but instead, they are political snake oil salesmen, and they aren’t even good at it.
