So far this fiscal year, there have been over 1 million illegal border encounters, and over 350,000 “gotaways” who have escaped into the country.
For context, that is almost 300,000 more illegal border crossings than by this time last year, and last fiscal year was the worst year on record.
Within these staggering numbers are stories of immense human suffering. Biden claims there is a working “process” at the border, but according to a horrifying report from The New York Times, that process has collapsed. Tens of thousands of migrant children are being exploited and forced into de facto “indentured servitude.” Meanwhile, Biden’s “process” empowers smugglers and traffickers.
Yet, Biden has “full confidence” in HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, who lost track of 85,000 children after responding to Biden’s demands to “move the children quickly out of shelters” by rolling back important vetting and safeguard procedures.
This humanitarian and security catastrophe must end. We must secure the border.
