If Biden truly wants to undermine Putin’s ability to wage war in Ukraine, he should unleash American energy.
Without Biden’s “U.S. oil embargo,” the U.S. would produce 300,000 more barrels of oil per day based on pre-Biden production patterns. In addition, the Keystone XL pipeline alone would have safely and cheaply transported 830,000 barrels per day. Producing more in the U.S. would lower prices for Americans and undercut Putin’s exports on the global market.
The administration is wrong in insisting lifting restrictions will likely have no impact on price. When prices were high in 2008, Bush announced a renewed push to drill for more oil in the U.S. and prices dropped as Bush was speaking, and by as much as 70% in a matter of months.
In contrast, Biden allowed Russian energy to expand markets and access, attacked American energy, and was seemingly the last person in America to back sanctioning Russian oil. Now, he’s doubling down on his anti-energy agenda.
Americans deserve a president who will do everything he can to unleash American energy, not a president who insists on doing everything but.
