If anything is undeniably clear from last night’s elections, it’s one thing: Joe Biden is toxic.
Democrats didn’t go anywhere near Biden — and vice versa. After playing a significant, visible role on 2021 campaign trail, Biden was entirely absent from the 2023 elections; he didn’t campaign with a single candidate nor did he engage in fundraising or endorsements until the bitter end. Instead, Biden was mostly holed up at his beach house.
Meanwhile, Republicans scored wins across the country. Republicans won big in every down-ballot Kentucky executive office, flipped mayorships and state legislative seats, including in deep blue Massachusetts, and won the Suffolk County executive office for the first time in two decades. In Mississippi, Republican Gov. Tate Reeves comfortably won re-election in a state where Democrats invested heavily and claimed they could compete. In Virginia, Republicans won every state legislative district Biden won by nine points or fewer.
Next year, Democrats will be tethered to the most unpopular president since Jimmy Carter. A huge number of Americans say things are going BADLY under Biden, with a strong majority of Americans viewing Biden as “mostly part of the problem.” Moreover, Republicans have a significant “enthusiasm advantage” heading into the presidential election.
Last night was anything but an endorsement of Biden and his failed policies.
