Today, Biden Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed U.S. Attorney David Weiss as a special counsel in the Hunter Biden criminal investigation.

Of course, the move leaves more questions than answers:

Why now? For years, prominent voices were calling for the appointment of a special counsel — but were repeatedly rebuffed. Now, with “enormous political implications,” a special counsel has been appointed ahead of a presidential election.
What prompted it? The move comes mere weeks after explosive congressional testimony from multiple “highly credible” IRS whistleblowers, who alleged political interference by the Biden administration. Moreover, it happened right after new court filings indicated Hunter Biden’s sweetheart plea deal has officially collapsed.
What’s next? As congressional committees continue their probe into the extensive network of Biden’s corruption, does the appointment of a special counsel jeopardize their ability to investigate?
