The Democrats’ hypocrisy on the filibuster is D.C. politics at its worst.
Democrat Sen. Richard Blumenthal let the cat out of the bag when he gave a bumbling, fumbling non-answer when CNN’s Jake Tapper called him out on the Democrats’ filibuster hypocrisy: “What are you talking about...haven’t you voted in favor of filibustering Republican legislation, not allowing them to even proceed to a discussion…you’ve used it too.”

In fact, Democrats used the filibuster 327 times in 2020. And among the issues Democrats filibustered last year … a police reform bill and a COVID-relief bill until after the election.
Democrat Mazie Hirono even admitted her newfound position is based on pure politics and her desire to pass a far-left agenda before Republicans win back majorities in Congress.
What happened to the convictions of the 31 Senate Democrats who signed a letter in 2017 urging the preservation of the filibuster? Apparently, many in the Democrat caucus are willingly to throw them away to appease the radical far-left. Just listen to how quickly Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin changed his tune between 2018 and this week.
Durbin when asked about doing away with the filibuster then, when he was in the minority: “I can tell you that would be the end of the Senate as it was originally devised and created going back to our Founding Fathers. We have to acknowledge a respect for the minority, and that is what the Senate tries to do in its composition and in its procedure.”
Durbin on the filibuster now, when he is in the majority: Astonishingly compares the Democrats’ push to end the filibuster to “the young men who stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day running straight into enemy fire knowing well that they might die to preserve democracy.”

In three years, Durbin went from passionately defending the filibuster to likening himself to an American soldier who ran “straight into enemy fire” on D-Day in the pursuit of ridding it.
He, like the rest of his colleagues pushing to end the filibuster, are complete and total hypocrites.
